Hidden Expedition: Amazon is a “seek and find” game with adventure elements. Each game chapter has 3 hints, and extra ones can be earned by finding five hidden beetles. The cursor disappears for a while if the player makes too many wrong clicks. Like all games of this genre, the main goal is to find and click on objects subtly placed on the screen. Some of these collected objects are stored in the inventory. Between chapters, there are several mini-games, some of them unique to their location. These include puzzles and searches for multiple instances of one object. They have to be used in key parts of the scenery in order to advance further.
